This weekend we went away to Orcas Island with some friends. We ate a lot of oysters, a lot. We grilled them on the beach and threw the shells back into the sound. The shallow waters were littered with them, it looked like that scene from Alice in Wonderland with The Walrus and the Carpenter.
I forgot that I pinned these pretty DIY oyster votives. I wished I would've saved all those shells!
I also love this vintage tin vase for a subtle homage to the oyster.
Do you like oysters?
See some photos from our fabulous weekend here.

wow who would have thought oyster shells could look so pretty
Love. Oysters. But it's hard to trust seafood in the Midwest. Turns out there's an Oyster Fest in Chicago in September, but I'm a little leery of food poisoning...
so pretty! and yes, I love me some oysters!
BBQed oysters! Such a pretty idea...great for a wedding.
xo
LOVE Orcas Island, and oysters as decorative pieces...not so much food. I think I've had them once though, maybe I should let them try and win me over again? xoxo
such a creative idea.

ahhhhh! I want to make one! I ate a million oysters on our honeymoon and didn't save a single shell...so upset at myself now!!
I love these!! What a great idea!!!
such a pretty votive.
The oyster shell votive is gorgeous.
Quick question...when you said you raced for the ferry and then it was late, was that the ferry back home or to another island?
Just kidding. I'm confused. You already said you took the ferry to Lopez Island. Sorry.
that is really cool!
Great idea! I haven't brought myself to eat an oyster yet!
did you see orcas???
I can't believe you can make that! Amazing!
That shell centerpiece is stunning, and I love the whole tablescape in the second photo-so gorgeous!
I love these ideas! Im not so much of an oyster fan though... so someone else might need to eat them for me :)
Boy do I love oysters! Especially smoked or on the half shell. I have your blue China in the last photo. It really perks up my kitchen with the rest of the blue . . .Love your blog
