diy aqua mason jars

Aqua mason jars are so pretty, and also pretty pricey. I never thought it could be a DIY but I came across a few tutorials and I can't wait to try it.

This one from Bridal Buzz uses a product called Vitrea 160 in turquoise and is baked after painting.

This one from The Little Apartment uses Mod Podge and food coloring.

I think they both turned out great. I'm not sure I'll ever be able to pay full price for the real thing now!

honeycomb paper decorations

I was talking a to a friend about high impact decorations the other day and I found myself on a hunt for honeycomb paper garlands.  For some reason they are hard to come by.  I haven't checked my local party store, mostly because I don't like to waste gas.  I finally found a pretty good source (of course I've never ordered from them)  so I wanted to share it with you in case you were having the same problem.  I tried to not let this be another "look what Martha did post",  but it couldn't be avoided ;)  Check out Devra Paper Corp if you're in the market for garlands and orbs.

strange wedding cake toppers

While there are lots of great handcrafted wedding items to be found online.  There are also some errr...interesting ones.  Here is a collection of cake toppers from a popular online craft shop (to remain nameless ;) I thought were humorous.  These items are all for sale, and many of them are custom so I'm going to blame the bride and groom instead of the artist.

These are cupcakes...angry ones.

Day of the dead topper anyone?

Bumble bees doing a popular broadway dance pose.

Nuts about eachother...awww

mmm...more death?

Riding off into the sunset on a peacock

She's got your hose...nevermind.

Dopamine molecules

And a few non cake toppers...

Dogs playing poker I get, but in wedding attire?

I just really want to know, does anyone's Dad look like that?

cocktail escort cards

Cocktail hour is one of my favorite parts of a wedding.  Right after a beautiful ceremony, right before the reception.  It's the kickoff to the rest of the night.  I love the idea of adding escort cards to a signature cocktail.  Tags or flags, isn't multipurpose great?

What would your signature cocktail be?

girl scout cookie favors

I guess I'm a little late on this one.  When I was at the grocery store last week the Girl Scouts were holding signs saying "last chance".  I told them "Yay!  I made it without buying one single box!"  Only the Dad thought it was funny.  I think that's better than how my Husband makes us go through the other entrance to avoid them.

Girl Scout cookies at a wedding though would be awesome.  Maybe as a late night snack?  Or a favor?

even royal weddings aren't perfect

The other night I watched Dateline NBC: Lady Di's Wedding Revisted.  Although I wasn't alive then, I've seen so many images of Charles and Diana's wedding over the past 30 years.  It was really interesting to hear the details of the royal wedding, and listen to interviews by the dress designers and even her littlest flower girl.

If you missed it you can check out some clips here.

It's so hard to believe that Princess Diana was only 20 years old when she was married.  She had such poise and grace for her age, she truly was the people's princess.  I don't think I would have handled the pressure so well.

I loved this photo.  Not even royalty can snap a perfect group photo.
Diana also messed up Prince Charles full name in her vows.
Charles Philip Arthur George...who could blame her?

Now looking on to Prince William and Kate's wedding, I wish that Diana were alive to see it.
April 29th, will you be watching?

vintage deer centerpieces

For some reason I've had this photo of a bonsai tree in my files for awhile.  I thought it would make a pretty centerpiece, it just needed something.  Then I found this little collection of vintage deer and it was a match made in heaven.  Of course you could recreate the look with moss and branches since a $325 naked bonsai tree is a little much.

Of course you'd have to take a photo like this at your woodsy wedding.  Look at those cute little deer on the log.  At least I think they're deer, I'm not wearing my glasses ;)

herbs for your wedding

**Winner of the Martha Stewart Mag giveaway is Annahita!**
Annahita email me your address and I'll get your Everyday Food subscription going
Thanks so much for following!

I've been in my garden this weekend.  Pulling things up mostly, but also dreaming about what I will be putting down once winter is over.  The year I was married it snowed on March 29th, so I think I'll give it a month before I plant anything.  The thing I can never plant enough of is herbs and tomatoes.  Mostly mint, basil, rosemary and a million cherry tomatoes because my dogs eat them straight off the vine.

There are so many great herb details for weddings out there.  I'd love to go to a wedding decorated with all herbs.  Could you imagine how great it would smell?  I'd be dancing with my head on a groomsman shoulder all night long ;)

Some herbs have their place in legends and mythology adding meaning to your wedding day.  In India, basil plants are sometimes grown in the homes of Hindus to bring the family happiness.  Rosemary is the herb of fidelity and remembrance. Rosemary has long been used in wedding ceremonies as an encouragement toward fidelity and to remind the new couple to remember their wedding vows, roots and families.

Greek legend has it that to learn the identity of your future spouse, you could sleep in the presence marjoram, and you would dream of your as-yet-unknown love. Wreaths of marjoram were used to crown newly married couples in ancient Greece and Rome to bring them love, honor and happiness.  It was similarly used in the Middle Ages, carried at weddings or displayed in bouquets

commission a painter for your wedding

I was flipping through Southern Weddings at the grocery store and came across a wedding where they commissioned a painter to paint their ceremony.  I love it, so French!

baby shower invites and a giveaway!

I'm working on baby shower invitations for my new niece who will be here in May.  I tried out the Martha Stewart tutorial I posted here.  It really was the easiest invitation I've ever done and I love the way they turned out!  That Martha is a genius.

I purchased 8.5 x 11 polka dot paper from Michaels and printed the info on the plain side.

Then I folded the paper according to the directions and secured with a label.  The labels were made by cutting 8.5 x 11 sticky labels into strips with schmancy scissors.  Peel the backing off and wrap half of label to secure fold on the front, and half on the back for your return address.

Voila!

In other exciting news, I've reached 100 followers!  Thanks Megan ;)  It seems customary to do a giveaway and boy do I love customs.  To show my appreciation for all my readers, I'm giving away a year subscription to my American idol...or maybe she's Swedish.  I'm unsure.

here comes the bride...again

I get a lot of comments about my header photo so I thought I would share the story behind it.

Last year I won a photo session with Mandy Chiappini Photography.  2 years after my wedding I wasn't ready to retire my dress so I put it back on for a session in the city with my red rubber boots.  Of course we ended up back on the beach...  I guess I will always be a beach bride.

Mandy Chiappini is my favorite photographer and I can not say enough good things about her. She made me feel like a superstar.  Lucky for you guys she's opened her business to weddings too!  Be sure to stop by her page and see for yourself.

I'm working on my page tabs.  Click the "here comes the bride...again" tab above to see our session.

In Seattle you've got to kiss a lot of salmon before you find Prince Charming
