gimme this for - seattle photographer project

Did you guys see this post on East Side Bride?  Seattle based photographer Nicole Firestone is doing a little experiment she is calling "Gimme This For" where you choose what you think your wedding photos are worth.  This is a tough one because #1, she is an awesome photographer and #2...I'm cheap.

But I do know when an experience is dear to your heart and you are so happy and grateful, you want to pay a good price.  We ended up tipping our wedding coordinator extra because of the wonderful experience she created.  If she didn't live in Mexico we'd be inviting her to all our family dinners for sure.

Here it is in her own words:

I decided that in order to better understand what goes into making photographic magic, and therefore what “value” people place on it, I would launch this project called Gimme This For.

Here's how it works:

1. You book your wedding with a $1000 deposit.
2. I deliver your photos and return your deposit in full.
3. You pay what you think your photographs are worth.

I want to stress that I am not doing this experiment because I believe the cost of wedding photography is unjustified. I honestly believe it is worth every penny!! My goal is to stimulate conversation. I want to challenge people to think about not only what their photos mean to them, but also what the experience of creative collaboration means to them, especially on one of the most important days of their lives.

What do you guys think?  Would you be nervous you might offend a photographer by judging their "worth", or would you feel good about an experience like this because you know you got "your money's worth"?

So gutsy! A wedding stationer did a similar experiment last year. I'd be so worried about the mean people out there. But I know we would pay 1,000 times over for our beautiful wedding photographs & I hope this experiment attracts people like us!

Wow, I have a lot of respect for Nicole for doing this. There are probably a lot of cheap people out there! I also feel like photography is invaluable and wouldn't participate in this, even if it was around when I plan to get married.

Very interesting concept! I guess it gets the word out for her business! And I hope its successful for her.

Gutsy is the perfect word for it! I think it's brave and amazing, but boy does it make me nervous for her!

Oh that is very gutsy! I know what you mean about the cost...I happen to agree the price is worth it!

I would not like this, I wouldn't want to over or under pay. I'm not cheap, but I'm also not made of money. If I loved the pictures, I'd probably give more so I wasn't the one they talked about that didn't pay that much. I do this all the time. When there is a service someone does for me outside of their work, I want to pay for it and tip, but not as much as the cost because the point is to get a deal. That's my two cents at least.
